Patsy Moloney & John Regan: Over The Bog Road
With
Mary Corcoran (piano) & Noreen O'Donoghue (harp)

Patsy Moloney And John Regan Over The Bog Road CD Celebrated West Limerick flautist, Patsy Moloney, together with Sligo box player, John Regan: a perfect duet of lilting Irish traditional music. The collaboration was a long time coming for the two men, who have been the best of friends ever since meeting on a Comhaltas tour back in the late 1970s. In compiling the CD, the highly accomplished pair managed to capture an intimate musical atmosphere - that of playing at home in the kitchen. According to John, the album blends both the flute and the accordion, without the loss of each individual's personality and 'makes a significant contribution to the panoply of duet playing in traditional Irish music.' The CD also features accompanists Mary Corcoran on piano and Noreen O'Donoghue on the harp.

PATSY MOLONEY
Born in Limerick, now based in Birmingham U.K.  Patsy grew up in the Templeglantine area of County Limerick. in a family steeped in traditional music. Hearing both Pat Joe Gleeson and Paddy Taylor who were two of the more prominent flautists from that area, he took a keen interest in the music. When he started travelling to music events he was much taken with the music of Eddie Maloney and Paddy Carty, legends of the concert flute. He listened and he learned.
He moved to London in the late 60's and slotted easily into the music'scene which was in full flow at that time. Swapping tunes with Roger Sherlock. John Bowe. Bobby Casey, Tommy McCarthy. Finbar Dwyer and Martin McMahon. From London to Birmingham where he lives with his wife family. Patsy teamed up with the late legendary flautist P.J. Maloney, which further enhanced his musicianship. In 1977 Patsy entered the Senior Flute competition at the All-Ireland Fleadh in Ennis. The result was as follows 1st: Patsy Moloney, 2nd: Michael Flatley and 3rd: Michael Gavin. Renowned for his rich clear tone, rock solid rhythm, Patsy who uses an 1832 Ruddal & Rose instrument, is now regarded as one of the finest flute players of his generation.

JOHN BEGAN
I come from north Sligo but have been domiciled in Dublin for many years, All-Ireland Senior Champion in 1970. I toured with Comhaltas on many occasions. This is my third recording to date. Previous projects were The Slopes of Benbulben with Mary Corcoran, and Let Down the Blade which also featured fiddle player, Paddy Glackin. My biggest influence in the early years was Joe Burke and Finbarr Dwyer. but I also loved the music of the Castle Ceili Band. While there are great performers around nowadays. I regard the music of fiddlers Michael Coleman, Seamus Connolly and Sean Keane as being very special indeed. I continue to learn tunes that take my fancy, and my greatest source are the tune collections of U.S. based. Offaly born box player Paddy O'Brien. I also find myself drawn to the recent compositions of Charlie Lennon ... On a Comhaltas tour in 1978 I met with flute player Patsy Moloney from Limerick We hit it off in every way as we have a similar approach to the music. At many lleadhs and festivals in the intervening years we enjoyed countless sessions of music together and often spoke wistfully of making a CD. This is it ... please enjoy ...
